Yanmadao Sword

A principle saber blade of both The Ming and Quing Dynasties, this 14th thru 18th Century weapon, this was a straight (with slight curve) device that was single-edged. Weighing 3 pounds, the blade was reinforced at it's center to reduce vibration during impact. This made The Yanmaodao especially popular with Imperial cavalry Troops. The weapon was carried in a scabbard of wood or steel. Although devised as a slashing weapon, it could also be used as a thrusting device. These blades were considered very reliable and robust.
