This was the sword of Oliver Cromwell, leader of The English Parliamentarian Forces during The English Civil War. He was also the founder of the short lived Commonwealth of England. Made in the 15th Century, it is a typical English Broadsword (popular with English cavalry at the time). Roughly 46 inches long, it weights 2.5 to 3 pounds. The blade is unique in that it has an intricately made Basket hilt and engraved blade (reading "For The Commonwealth of England".) This would have been a very expensive blade to make during Cromwell's time. Owned privately until the 19th Century, it was donated to The English Government. It is displayed at The Tower of London, England.
