This was a Pole Arm weapon used throughout Europe during the 15th Century. Similar in design to the Military Fork combined with a Partisan, the Ranseur was known for not having a cutting edge. The weapon was designed as a thrusting or punching device. Similar in shape to the Okinawan Sai, (a martial arts weapon). It was not proven that effective against armor. Often regulated to guard and ceremonial duties. The head of the weapon (primary spear point), could be 8 to 15 inches in length. The various designs of the Ranseur side blades - or fins, varied in shape and size.
The pole could be from 8 to 10 feet long.
