Relative to an English Marcher Lord, a Margrave was used in many Germanic Nations – as well as The Holy Roman Empire. They too were tasked with the protection of a Sovereign's Border Lands (by force of arms). Unlike a Marcher Lord however, Margrave's had immense political powers. After the fall of The Holy Roman Empire, the title would would be given (and used less) – with the last “official” Margrave dying in 1932.
