A Leidang was a Norse conscription method used to bring together Ships for either the purpose of mass fishing expeditions or for Coastal Defense. First mentioned around the 9th Century AD, The Leidang was used when a particular Clan or Clans were running low on food stores. When a Leidang was ''called'' other Clans were obligated to assist, However, if a Clan was not as respected as other, it might not get a large amount of Ships to assist them. In War, The Leidang was used more for Coastal Defense than to repel an invasion from a foreign enemy. In this form, The Leidang was seen more in used during several internal conflicts among The Norse.
