Another small Caliber Rifle which saw some limited use by Boer Militia during The 2nd Boer War, The Italian Mannlicher Model 1888-90 Rifle used the 8mm round. Cheap to make and even cheaper to purchase, many Boers were forced to settle for this weapon in lieu of the more expensive Krag and Martini-Henry Rifles. Popular if only for their ''smokeless'' quality (very low cordite residue from the round when fired), The Mannlicher did have a ''respectable'' 1,300-yard effective range.
