Another of the early “Superships”, HMS “Royal Sovereign” was a 100-gun Galleon-class vessel of The Royal Navy. Originally built in 1697, she was destroyed by fire in Dry Dock. Using recovered timber, she was reconstructed again in 1701. Sated to be 1,880 tons displaced, she was 175 feet long and sat some 50 feet tall (beam). She could crew 200 men. She was the first of the “First Rated Ships” to be constructed on a regular basis by England's Navy. She remained in service until 1768, before she was broken up.
