While hardly anyone (rather a former Soldier, Sailor, Airman or Marine), would not still cringe at the sight of His or Her ''Drill Instructor'' (or Master), even The Ancients had a form. In Ancient Rome, these Men were known as The Hastiliarius. The Hastilarius were tasked with instructing Recruits in the use of ''basic'' Roman Legionnaire weapons and of course mastery of their iconic Infantry attack Formations. Their very name is derived from the basic Roman weapon, The ''Hasta Spear'' and The Hastati (Infantry), that used it. Training with Spear, Sword and Shield was crucial for the basic Legionnaire and The Hastiliarius would spent much time with them in ''Basic Training''. The Hastiliarius were taken from only the most experienced ''Battlefield experienced'' Legionnaires. Most where of a higher Rank and were paid more.
