This unique weapon developed in the early 8th/9th Century and it's usage continued into the 14th Century. This Pole Arm weapon was essentially a pole with a sharpened spear point at it's apex. At the mid-point of the spear tip body was a pruning hook protrusion. This weapon had very similar applications to that if the Pick (and it's varieties). It's drawback was it's general design (the hook component), which was too small to effectively pull down an armored rider. No doubt the weapon lead to the Guisarme may have been the inspiration for the more recognized form of some Pick weapons.
