Raised in Jackson, Mississippi in 1861 – The 6th Mississippi Regiment consisted of (6) Companies equaling roughly 650 Officers and Men. They were assigned to The Department of Tennessee (West), and fought in many of it's battles. The Regiment fought at Shiloh (1862) and ''survived'' The Siege of Vicksburg. The 6th earned distinction during The Battle of Atlanta (1864), suffering heavy casualties. Only 60 Officers and Men lived to surrender in 1865.
