Another of the Chinese “Great Swords”, these blades were developed during The Song Dynasty (5th thru 13th Centuries). These were popular and very common for use by both military and civilian alike. The blades were between 4 and 5.5 feet long and featured an 8 to 12-inch wooden or bone handle. The weapon weighed around4 pounds and required two hands to wield. The Zhanmadao Sword was comparable to the German Zweihander Sword. It was of particular use against opposing Pikemen.
