Although now a Martial Art device, The Hook Sword was an ancient (8th Century), Chinese close quarters weapon. Single-edged on the outer most portion of the blade, it was designed with a reversed hook (which curved down and inward), The Hook Sword (used in pairs), could both “hook” an enemy sword or “catch” Armor (thus allowing one to pull down an Enemy Cavalryman). The Hook Sword also featured a sharped, crescent shaped handle – which could be used to stab or slash, thus making The Hook Sword a multi-purpose weapon.
