Used briefly (1781-82), this Flag was created to symbolize the alliance between America and France (with whose help independence could not have been achieved). Featuring the iconic 13-Red and White Stripes, the Flag had a larger Upper Canton (left and more narrow in design). 13-stars were arranged in a Blue Field with a Gold French Fleur-dy-Lys surmounting. The Alliance Flag was also much longer than the later traditional National Colors (5x3 feet).
