''Curtana'' is the name given to the Ceremonial Blades of the English Monarchs since They were made in 1238. Although it is unclear if They were first used by Henry III, it is documented that They were used to install his Wife (Eleanor) as his Queen. It is said that Curtana were actually the legendary blade of Sir Tristan (the Cornish Knight from King Arthur fame). Another legend has Curtana were made by the same swordsmith as Charlemagne's famed Joyeuse Sword. Curtana is part of a three sword collection - Mercy, Justice To The Temporal and Justice To The Spiritual. The Sword of Mercy is not edged and is blunted at it's tip (representing Mercy). Curtana are part of The Crown Jewels of The United Kingdom and are included in Royal Coronations. The Sword of Offering (made for King George IV) and The Great Sword of State (which is very close to a mini-Longsword). All these Royal blades are embellished with jewels and fine metal inlays. They are considered to be some of the most valuable blades in the world.
