The Shield of Vergina, is a ceremonial circular ''War Shield'' which was found in The Royal Tombs of Aigai (Greece). Aigai (now Vergina), was once the Capital of Ancient Macedonia. In 1976, a Tomb was discovered which was reputedly the resting place of Phillip II and other Family members of the famed Macedonian Leader – Alexander The Great. The Shield found inside the Tomb had been said to have been used by none other than Alexander. Ceremonial in possible usage, it may have been one of his used when in Court. The Shield is of the classical Greek Apis design, and made of wood, leather and glass. Further is is embellished with silver and gold filigree. Images on The Shield depict battle, something of when Alexander spent most of his adult life involved with. It is speculated by Historians that Alexander may well have taken it from the fabled City of Troy.
