The ''Shadow Doll''

There is very little origin story to The ‘’Shadow Doll’’ – as it I known. Some cite that it dates to the 1880s, others much later. Possibly a ‘’handicraft’’ of Caribbean Folk Magic (Voodoo) or some obscure European Paganistic Cult. Several are said to exist, with one actually in The Ed and Lorraine Warren Paranormal Museum in Connecticut (US). The ‘’Doll’’ is roughly 3-feet long (or tall). It has a very frightening visage (made of porcelain). It’s ‘’hair’’ was constructed from ‘’Black Raven Feathers’’. One wont find The Doll ‘’stuffed’’ with straw either. It’s composed of various ‘’bone’’, crafted into a kind of skeleton. In The Dolls mouth, ‘’Human Teeth’’ are placed. And don’t forget it’s hands – each finger features a claw nail (also from animal origins). Who in their right mind would craft, let alone own such a thing? Who knows?  As the Legend goes, if a picture (or now photograph) is taken of The Doll, it will be infused with various Demons and Evil Spirits – said to inhabit The Creation. A skilled Witch or Warlock can (and was said to) – write various Hexes and Curses on the back of the picture/photo. Sent by Mail to it’s intended ‘’victim’’, when the envelope was opened – and One gazed upon The Doll’s image – One’s ‘’Curse’’ began.

Never again would the Victim have a ‘’good night’s sleep’’. Their very ‘’dreams’’ (or nightmares) would be populated solely by images of The Doll (alive in dreams). ‘’She’’ chases and scratches with Her claws. Soon, without proper sleep, One would become neurotic (or psychotic). Eventually, One would commit suicide as the only viable option of escape. The original Owners (a married Couple), brought the strange curio in Europe and brought it back to The States. They too were plagued by horrible dreams. So terrified, They gave The Doll to The Warrens for inclusion in Their ‘’Museum of The Bizarre’’. And just in case One feels that They can destroy The Shadow Doll – BEWARE. Fire, rendering it to shreds etc. – MAY destroy the physical Doll, but it is said the Demons that inhabit it will be released….to wreak havoc and misfortune upon the Offender.
