In both Judaic and Christian Ideology, The ‘’Mark of Cain’’ was a punishment leveled by God upon Adam and Eve’s Son, Cain. Cain and His brother Abel, were born to the infamous ‘’cast out’s’’ from Paradise. Able was a ‘’God Fearing Man’’, while Cain was not so. So angered by God’s ‘’pleasure’’ with His Brother, Cain beat Abel to death. God (aware of the crime), called upon Cain for the whereabouts of Abel (full knowing He had murdered Him). God so cursed Cain to never ‘’know unnatural death’’ by placing upon His body – a Mark, so that ‘’All Men would know WHO Cain was and WHY One would garner damnation for harming Him). Hence the term ‘’Mark of Cain’’. Cain was forced out into the oft confusing ‘’Land of Nod’’ – where apparently The Nephilim resided in great numbers (but more on THAT later).
Other Cultures were aware of this early ‘’Urban Legend’’ and incorporated Cain’s story into Their Religious doctrine. Some versions of His Curse, was that Cain was thus made immortal, never to know death for His crime. Others, Cain would marry and gave birth to The Unrighteous, who along with The Nephilim, so angered God, that he ould eventually destroy The Earth and all those therein by water (The Great Flood). It should be noted, that neither The Judaic nor Christian religious Texts state that a ‘’permanent and physical mark’’ was placed on Cain, but that Cain was ‘’marked so, spiritually’’. It was not until The Middle Ages that most Writers and Researchers ‘’created’’ a ‘’physical mark’’ (normally on Cain’s forehead). This may have been more for ‘’literary effect’’ than an other meaning.
