The Lake Winnipesaukee Mystery Stone

A puzzling Artifact, The Lake Winnipesaukee Mystery Stone was discovered in a field near Meredith, New Hampshire - in 1872. Workers, digging a hole for a fence post, discovered it some 6-feet in the ground. The odd stone (credited with being Native American in origin), was kept in Private Ownership until 1927. It was given to the local Historical Society for long term safe keeping. An egg-shaped stone, it is 4-inches long and 2.5-inches thick. Several unusual carvings adorn the outside. The Stone is similar to other rocks used as "Tribal Treaties". This stone is thought to be one. Although the exact date of the Artifact is unknown, some date it to 1,000 years. The real mystery of the stone, is a small 1/8-inch drilled hole through the stone (top to bottom). The issue us that the hole was drilled with such perfection, primitive technology did not have the ability to do so. A mini borescope was used in 1994, to examine the drilling. It was determined the hole was made with "laser-like" precision. No other examples of this kind of stone have ever been found.
