Considered by many to being one of the most haunted locations in America, The Myrtles Plantation is located in St. Francisville, Louisiana. Built in 1769 by General David Braddock (one of the architects of the ill-fated Whiskey Rebellion against the US Government). The Myrtles has been the scene of tragedy after tragedy in it's long history. 10 murders, 20 natural (but untimely) deaths and many tales of madness and cruelty are ingrained within it's walls. It is said that no less than 12 Spirits still walk the Antebellum halls. The most famous "Resident" is Chloe. Her story comes from 1834. Chloe was a Slave of The Stirling Family. One day, Chloe was eavesdropping on an argument between the Master and Mistress. Rumor said that the Mistress had caught her husband in one of his indiscretions with their female slaves. When he stormed out of the room, he caught Chloe listening in. Angered, he cut off her ear.
Chloe began to wear a green turban to cover her disfigurement. Chloe began to plan her revenge. Using crushed up poisonous plants, she served it to her cruel Master. Unfortunately, the Mistress and her daughter ate the poison and died. It was said the Master cursed "whoever" had done the act, to be bound forever to The Myrtles. Chloe has been "seen" by a great many visitors to the Plantation. Now a Bed and Breakfast, some have even claimed to have taken her picture, still roaming The Myrtles.
