The Ghosts of Gettysburg Orphanage

 As we have read in many Articles, The Town of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania (US) – was the scene of an Epic battle of The American Civil War of 1861-1865. It was the location where The Confederate States Army under General Robert E. Lee attempted a final invasion of The North. The battle was lost to The South, with a heavy cost for both sides of the engagement (nearly 50,000 killed and wounded). And, as we have further seen – the plains of Gettysburg is a ''hot spot'' for Paranormal Activities of all sorts. The Gettysburg Orphanage is one such ''spot''. Opened nearly 4 years after the battle, it was designed to house Orphan children from the surrounding Region. Even President US Grant visited The Facility – having a photograph taken of the Event. In time, The Orphanage would close and be converted to the Main Tourist and Visitor Center for what would become The Gettysburg National Battlefield Park. But it is also well known for MANY Ghostly ''visitors'' as well.

As is known some misdeeds were undertaken at The Orphanage. Some Administrators of The Facility were not as kind to The Children living there, and many were forced into harsh work and fed very little. Many youngsters died and were buried out back of The Orphanage. Some were even reputedly tortured (chained up in the basement for misbehaving). During The War, even before The Orphanage was constructed, several Federal Artillery Batteries were stationed there – blasting away at Confederate Positions. A problem with The Building being always ''too cold'' even during the hottest of July months, is attributed to the Souls of those poor children who so suffered. Small darting shadows are often seen (especially in the aforementioned Basement). As one would expect, Soldier ''Spirits'' are also reported in The Orphanage. These are thought to be ''Members'' of The Federal Artillery. In recent years, many Paranormal Investigations have been performed – leading Investigators to believe strongly that The Orphanage is indeed well haunted.
