Located in the remote ‘’wilds’’ of New Mexico (US), lies one Fort Stanton. With it’s closest neighbor MANY miles away (The City of Roswell), most Americans know little of the mid-19th Century former Military installation. Built in 1855, it served as base for the storied 1st US Dragoons, who were needed to protect early Settlers moving to California. The Fort saw active service in The Native American War (in particular The Apache Wars of the 1880s. Later, famed World War I Army General John J. ‘’Black Jack’ Pershing used Fort Stanton as a base of operations against Mexican Bandit Pancho Villa. The Fort would eventually become the first Tuberculosis Hospital for The US Army. During World War II – owing to the remoteness of The Fort, German and Imperial Japanese Prisoners of War – were contained there. Decommissioned, in the 1960s, Fort Stanton would be used as a Drug Rehabilitation Hospital until it too closed in 2006. Turned over to The State, many years have been invested in renovating many of the surviving 19th Century buildings to their original conditions – as a National Historic Site. But it’s unique History is NOT what attracts. Fort Stanton has, for years – been seen by many, as ‘’proof positive’’ of being a ‘’hotbed’’ for Paranormal activities. Many investigations have been performed over the years, with much film and photographic evidence gathered. Many think that ‘’something’’ is definitely still ‘’living’’ at The Fort.
Often, The State has a hard time getting Employees to work (let alone live there). Heavy reports of ‘’full figured apparitions and ‘’shadow people’’ are seen. Everything from ‘’footsteps’’ to ‘’doors opening and closing themselves at all hours’’ are quite common. Electronic Voice Phenomenon (EVP) tests, yield ‘’active responses’’ to ‘’questions asked’’. The Post Cemetery is also a very active spot. With many TB Patients who died and were buried there, from several POWs – the recording of ‘’Ghosts Orbs’’ are another very common occurrence. But perhaps the most ‘’scary’’, are reports of a large ‘’ Black Entity’’, resembling ‘’part Man and part Canine’’, seen ‘’running on it’s hind legs’’ – at night, around the exterior of The Fort. The ‘’Creature’’ is Black, with large patches of it’s fur ‘’missing’’. The strange ‘’Cryptid’’ has been known to ‘’chase people’’ and is quite ‘’menacing’’. No local Native American origins are associated with The Beast, which leads many to link it to perhaps – a form of Chupacabra. Tours of The Fort can still be arranged – but NEVER at night time!
