Elizabeth Polly was reputed to have been a 19th Century AD Female settler to Hays, Kansas. Having moved their during The American Civil War (1861), Elizabeth lost Her Husband (to Cholera) first, and both Her Sons to The War. Several weeks before She received word off their death in battle, Elizabeth had gotten a Letter from them, saying they were to be furloughed and were coming Home. Polly was said to go to The Rail Depot each night to wait for for them, carrying a ''blue lantern'' (so She would see Her way Home). After hearing of their deaths, Polly just ''gave up on Life all together. Since then, on certain nights, people have reported ''seeing a blue flame'' dancing on the fields around Hays. It is thought that this is Polly, still carrying Her lantern and ''waiting for Her Sons''. She is also known as ''The Blue Light Lady''. The Legend became so popular, that in the late 1960s, a Statue (Monument) was erected to Polly's memory.
