An early "Bermuda Triangle" Cases - The story of The "Ellen Austin" has been debated by Experts and Skeptics, alike. In reality, no true answers will ever be known. But the facts, as with all tales of this nature are left to the Reader to believe or disprove. The "Ellen Austin" was a Packet Ship built and launched from Maine (US), in 1854. She was 210-feet long and displayed 1,800 tons. By the 1880s, she was plying The North Atlantic Trade, running goods between London, England and New York. In 1881, the Crew of "Ellen Austin" encountered a drifting Ship in the area of The Bermuda Triangle called "The Sargasso Sea". Long reputed to being a "dead zone". Said to be a large "Doldrum", errant Ships reported get caught in the thick, surface floating seaweed and cannot move. Attempting to "hail", The "Ellen Austin" reviewed no response. Seeing the possibly of Salvage Rights, a "Prize Crew" boarded the Derelict. A tow line was connected between the two Ships.
The "Ellen Austin" was two-days out from it's salvage, when she encountered a "strange and sudden fog". Both Ships were enveloped. The phenomenon lasted several hours. The fog eventually cleared to reveal another unusual situation. The Derelict was gone! No one on The "Austin" saw or heard anything. The Captain turned around and doubled back. Within several hours, The "Austin" came across the Derelict. Coming alongside, a Boarding party went on board. No sign of the prize Crew was found. In fact, no evidence of them ever being on board was found. Perplexed but undaunted, The "Austin's" Captain put another Crew on board. Although double town line was attached and the Derelict was no more than 200-yards away. Then, just as suddenly as before, another mysterious fog appeared and swallowed both vessels, just add before. The exact same happened as before. Now 2 Crews were "missing". The Captain of The "Austin" had enough. He left the mysterious Derelict free floating in The Atlantic. Making Port in Savannah, Georgia, a full report was made. Later an Inquiry was held. No Authority could find any and falsehoods on behalf of The Crew. The "Ellen Austin" never ran The Atlantic Route again. Sold to a German Shipping Company in 1883, she was reputedly broken up. What did The "Ellen Austin" experience A "Ghost Ship", or yet another unexplained phenomenon indicative of that area known as "The Devil's Triangle".
