Criminal History seldom forgets those truly ‘’memorable’’ Fiends, identified as Serial Killers. And perhaps, it never will forget Mr. Albert Fish. Among His many ''nicknames'' was His moniker of The ‘’Brooklyn Vampire’’. At least (5) Victims were credited to His ‘’work’’, but most Police at the time stated His ‘’Kill Count’’ was MUCH higher – perhaps even as high as 100. Fish targeted Children. His ‘’passion’’ was torture and yes….Cannibalism. Born in Washington DC around 1870, Fish almost immediately had ‘’issues’’. His Mother was 75 when She gave birth t Him. Most Criminal Scholars cite that The entire Fish Family Line had Mental incapacities. A Drunken Father who died early (and not long after Albert’s Mother gave birth as well), found Fish placed in Orphanage after Orphanage. In that Era, such places were true ‘’Torture Houses’’, with Children constantly being misused and mistreated. Albert was said to have been beaten so much, He (self-professed later), to actually having ‘’enjoyed’’ the pain. ‘’Aged Out’’ of The System by 18 years, Fish began to wander The United States. Although never admitting to having ‘’sexual gratification’’ with the ‘’same sex’’, Fish gravitated to young Men for ‘’intimacies’’. Fish began to exhibit what is known as Sad-Machsochism tendencies, stating later ‘’He enjoyed not only being in pain, but inflicting it on others’’.

Although later married (briefly), Fish was most active as a Serial Killer between 1919 and 1930. He dressed impeccably and gave off no hint of The Monster inside. He targeted younger Children, often luring them to some secluded barn (later an old cabin). By His own admission, He detested intimacies with His Victims, only able to achieve His own ‘’gratifications’’ thru killing them. So too, did He develop a ‘’taste’’ for Human Flesh. He would routinely slice up His Victims and consume them ‘’later’’. Fish felt He was beyond capture and, much like the infamous English Serial Killer ‘’Jack The Ripper’’ – taunted not only The Police, but especially the parents of His Victims. He wrote in great and lurid details not only ‘’how’’ They died, but ‘’what’’ He did ‘’after’’.

Fish was captured in in 1935 at 67 years of age. It was one of His ‘’Letters’’ that would give Him away – finally. Using stolen stationary, which His Landlord remembered seeing in His Room, Police caught Fish. The same stationary was also used in a Letter to the parents of His last Victim. Fish did not deny any claims, in fact He seemed to enjoy the notoriety. Interviewed MANY times by The Press and Police, much of what Fish said is still (for the most part), hidden from History due to the extreme graphic nature of content. During His Trial, He boasted that He had in reality ‘’had’’ (eaten) a Child in each and every American State. The Jury saw obviously that Fish was quite insane. Given the facts of The Case, normally – such a ‘’Person’’ would be locked away forever in an Asylum. Fish’s Jury however, felt that the severity and gruesomeness of the Crimes were such, that Fish needed to be executed. He was sent to The Electric Chair at New York State Prison (Sing Sing) in 1936. Fish reportedly asked His executioner IF He would be able to ‘’achieve pleasure’’ (arousal) as a result. Even helping Him strap on the metal cuffs (electrodes), with ‘’happiness’’, the first joint of 50,000 volts amazingly did NOT kill Fish. His heart still beating, The Prison Warden ordered another jolt of 50,000 volts released. This time, The ‘’Vampire of Brooklyn’’, was quite dead. His remains were buried at The Prison Cemetery.
