The ''Aegis of Zeus'' was his Battle Shield. Said to have been a Rounded Shield, it has also been described as a Herkllion-style of War Shield (and the beginning of the typical Greek War Shield began from this Myth). In some early versions, The Aegis was made of animal skins and wood (later becoming Steel). The Aegis bore the image of The Gorgon on it's front. To shake The Aegis, caused thunder to rain down on The World. This was seen as Zeus' way of imparting his “anger” with Mankind. The Aegis was used in Art centering around a great Warrior (with many Statues and Mosaics incorporating The Aegis). The most notable was that of Alexander of Macedonia. Similar “God Shields” are known in both Egyptian and Norse Mythology.
