Tantalus is of Greek myth. Damned to Tartarus (the lowest level of Hades), he had once been a much beloved Mortal who was frequently invited to join The Gods in their celebrations. Then Tantalus devised a cruel test. He killed, cooked and served his Son (Pelops), to The Deities to see if they could tell if they were eating human flesh. Horrified, The Gods restored the boy to life damning Tantalus to a very specific punishment in Hades. In Tartarus, Tantalus suffers extreme hunger and thirst. In front of him are trees and vines of exotic fruits. As Tantalus reaches out to grab some they pull away. He floats in water. If he tries to drink, the water recedes. This will continue for all eternity. It is said that Tantalus is only 1 of 3 damned that are still allowed to keep their human shape in Hades (due to the nature of their punishments).
