From The Ancient Greek meaning ‘’To The Ankle’’ – ‘’Talaria’’ was said to describe the small wings which were ‘’attached’’ to the ankles of Mercury, The Messenger of The Gods of Olympus. Given to Him by Zeus (and crafted by Hephaestus). The ‘’golden sandals’’ were made from strips of gold – fitted to Mercury’s foot. The wings were controlled by Mercury’s will (it was said). The Talaria were sought after by many Humans to coveted them, due to their ability to provide ‘’great speed’’. 19th Century Romanticism (Art and Literature)  ''changed'' The Talaria as being simply wings growing from Mercury (omitting The Device completely).
