Shakpana

In The Dahomey (Africa) Tribal Belief, ‘’Shakpana’’ was an ‘’Evil Deity’’, associated with the coming of disease (in particular – Smallpox). Shakpana was also blamed for insanity within The Dahomey. As with most Cultures that had similar ideology, most cases of disease or ‘’mental illness were blamed on ‘’demonic influence’’. Normally, Shamans would conduct an elaborate Ceremony which involved the drinking of Herbal remedies and long hours of ritualistic prayers and or chanting, to ‘’remove’’ Shakpana’’.
