''Pridwen'', The Shield of King Arthur

While ‘’Excalibur’’, King Arthur’s fabled Blade is well known – most are not aware that Arthur had several ‘’magical’’ pieces of Armor and defensive weapons. One such was ‘’Pridwen’’, His Shield. Although it does not appear in Mallory’s ‘’Le Morte’’ Saga, it does in several other ‘’Period Pieces’’ Said to bear a Bottony Cross and the image of The Virgin Mary, Pridwen was said to cause any Enemy blow by Spear or Sword to shatter (with no damage caused to The Shield). The habit of painting the image of The Virgin Mary was emulated by several other Round Table Knights as well. The creation of Pridwen is attributed to the ‘’magic’’ of Merlin.
