Although if seen and described by Medieval Scholars (writing in their Bestiaries), The Hyena or other types would have easily been confused as The Pard. Part Lion and Part Leopard, these beasts were known in many Medieval Cultures. Oddly, The Pard (or Leopon, as they are known today), are a relatively recent experiment in DNA splicing. Just what were the Medieval Scholars describing?
