In Japanese Myth, The Onryo is considered one of the worst of Spirits. Also known as "Grudge Spirits", they fit into The Yurei-Class of "Angry Ghosts". Similar to European Wraith and Revenant Spirits, The Onryo (in human life), were people who were murdered and not found justice. They maintain their "human, corporeal" appearance - but great emphasis is put into the "presentation" of the wound that caused their demise. The main goal of The Onryo is to cause great torment to the person responsible for their death. In thus, The "Grudge Ghost" takes on the characteristics of a Poltergeist. Even if the Perpetrator were to face justice for their crime (including suicide), The Onryo will remain "haunting" a particular house or location. Some say that one can manifest a Onryo type force through intense thoughts of hatred or retribution. They are common features in Japanese literature and of course, Horror Films, due to their terrifying nature. Priests can be used to remove Onryo, but it is very dangerous and difficult to do. All vestiges of The Onryo's evil intentions must be erased, or they will continue to remain.
