Old ''Green Eyes''

The American Civil War Battle of Chickamagua was fought on the 19th & 20th of September, 1863. The hard fought Battle, which The Union Army won – was another ''death knell'' to the dying Confederate States of America. The battle saw thousands of deaths on both sides. But long before the battle local Native American tribes told tales of a Beast known as ''Green Eyes''. Non Native Americans heard the tale and added ''Old Green Eyes''. The Entity was said to be a Demon that was a Shapeshifter. ''It'' often assumed the guise of a ''giant Cat Beast that walked upright like a Man'' The Being seemed to be attracted to death and decay. Often, it was said – that the only thing seen was a pair of ''glowing green eyes''. Soon after the end of the epic Battle, several Union Soldiers were on Guard duty near snodgrass Hill. The area was strewn with the bodies of the many hundreds of Confederates that attempted to charge Federal Positions – and fell to their death among cannon and musket fire. It was night time and perhaps the Troops were simply overwrought and tired. But several diary entries stated that in the ''dark of the night, a low growl could be heard''. Investigating, they Guards stated they ''saw'' and ''eerie pair of glowing green eyes floating in the dark''. A ''menacing presence'' was also felt. The ''floating eyes'' moved above the corpses of Enemy Soldiers. Scared, several Guard fired into ''The Presence''. The ''Eyes'' simply vanished. Even today, some Park Rangers on patrol of the now National Battlefield Park have reported over the years of seeing ''green lights'' that dart and vanish'' around Snodgrass Hill.
