Most European Nations have some form of Ogre Mythos. The legends seen to have started around The Middle Ages (and Ogres were even incorporated in many Medieval Bestiaries). In the 12th Century, Ogres were somewhat human in appearance. Their more frightening visage came many years later. Often, Ogres fit into two classes. The supernatural version involves a normal human being cursed to transform into an Ogre (for eternity or a period of time). This is a form of enchantment. Second, Ogres are a separate race of beings most noted for living in unpleasant places (swamps, forests, etc.). Most Ogre myths involve some sort of revenge tale or cautionary tale. Ogres are seen as "Eaters of Children", (small animals etc). Some are friendly but most are malevolent.
