Maltby Cemetery and The 13 Steps to Hell

 A rather bizarre and disturbing Urban Legend, Maltby Cemetery is located in Snohomish County, Washington State (US). It is bizarre in that, early in the History of The Graveyard (built in 1901, with the Tale starting in 1905), it would persist until the ‘’cause’’ of The Legend was demolished by The City of Maltby Authorities (as a means to stop The legend and the several ‘’missing persons’’ reports, t seems). Disturbing in the fact, that within The Cemetery was reputedly the ‘’Doorway To Hell’’. According to the mythos, a wealthy family commissioned a below ground crypt be constructed. The crypt, perhaps 15-feet below the surface, was accessed via a series of (13) stone steps. Some have even said that the reason for the family wealth was that age old tale of ‘’selling One’s Soul’’ to The Devil.

Perhaps curious teenagers or others, began to go to the Cemetery – perhaps for a good scare. But as it goes, as One traversed down the stone steps, by the middle – ‘’things began to happen’’. First, all sound would suddenly cease. Second, IF One would turn around to gaze back at the top entrance – One would ‘’see Hell’’. Worse, One would see themselves in ‘’fire and torment’’. The Legend states that ponce this ‘’vision’’ was ‘’seen’’ – the victim would go quite raving insane.

Later, as the Legend grew, some of those who ‘’went down The Steps’’ – vanished (before the eyes of those present). These ‘’vanishings’’ were reported to skeptical Law Enforcement Authorities (who dutifully record such as ‘’Missing Persons’’ (more probably runaways). The Legend took hold, with even ‘’Out of Towners’’ harassing The Police for the location of ‘’Hell’’. It was said it got so bad, that City Officials ordered the steps removed (demolished) and the ‘’crypt’’ sealed. To date, no One is just quite sure just ‘’where’’ the exact location of the former ‘’gateway’’ was (or is). But, those sensitive to such things still claim they call ‘’feel’’ such ‘’negative and spiteful’’ energies by just entering the main entrance of Maltby Cemetery. One Wonders…..Maybe The City Officials know something more Than We Do!
