From Ancient India, The Mahisha Asura was not a Hindu God, but a Supernatural Being - created from the mating between a God and a Buffalo. He was despised by "real" Gods. He had the ability to Shapeshift into a Lion or Elephant. To keep the other Gods from attacking him, The Mahisha Asura could make himself "multiply" into 1 million images of his likeness (to give the appearance of a massive Army). The Mahisha Asura often ignored humans. However, if provoked, he would cause plague and famine. The Mahisha Asura is often featured heavily in Hindu fable.
