Possibly of Etruscan origins, The Roman ‘’Goddess of Thieves’’ was called ''Laverna''. A Resident of The Underworld, She was invoked by Thieves as a means of having Her protection when carrying out Their illegal actions. In addition to NOT being caught, Laverna covered a Thief with a ‘’cloak’’ (unseen), which gave the Offender a look of innocence. Venerating Laverna involved only offerings made with the Left hand. This appendage was often preferred for usage by Thieves.
