La Madama

In Haitian and Voodoo Beliefs. ''La Madama'' is a Female Loa (Spirit), comparable to The Catholic veneration of The Virgin Mary (Mother of Jesus), She is portrayed as a Black Woman with a broom (often as a Servant). La Madama is invoked by Workers and Mothers for protection. Her ''broom'' is said to ''sweep away harm''. Icons crafted to resemble La Madama are common, as are candles.
