One of the most hotly debates ''Arcane Artifacts'' of the late 20th Century The Diary of Jack The Ripper was a supposed hand written journal belonging to English Merchantman James Maybrick. Maybrick lived during the ''Reign of Terror'' which held The City of London firmly in it's grasp in 1888. The ''grip'' was maintained by the infamous and equally mysterious Serial Killer known as ''Jack The Ripper''. In 1992, Laborer Michael Barrett stated that He was ''given'' an ''ancient diary'' which purported that the Writer and Owner, one Mr. James Maybrick WAS the infamous Ripper. It was claimed that some of the entries were written by ''only Someone who would have had intimate knowledge'' of The Crimes. Naturally, this created a wild ''stir'' among ''Ripperologists'' and Historians throughout The World.

Quickly, a ''Book Deal'' came to pass, (selling millions Worldwide) in 1993. However, The ''Diary'' (which it's present Owner was reluctant to have tested), was found to have more ''mystery'' to it than ''Saucy Jack''. While the book and binding appeared to be of the type and kind manufactured in The Victorian Era (and the kind a wealthy Man might own), the ink used to write it was suspect. It was ''close'' but was inconsistent with Victorian Era inks. Another point, was that the ''language'' of The Diarist was not necessarily similar to Victorian English. In short, there was too many question marks and not enough proof. Maybrick himself was said to have slowly descended into insanity, brought about by His Wife's infidelities. Turning to drink (and possibly drugs Opium), Maybrick exacted His ''anger'' on the Prostitutes of The Whitechapel District of London in 1988. His Wife finding out, She poisoned Maybrick, who would die of such. The Wife was tried for His murder and sentenced to Life in Prison (she would eventually be released and died a recluse).

Barrett would attempt to ''come clean'' eventually and try to state that He faked The Diary (a clever undertaking nonetheless). However, He had since recanted this confession. As almost a supportive component (or perhaps another clever Hoaxer), a Pocket Watch would ''appear'' by a Jewelry shop Owner. This Watch was also supposedly owned by Maybrick and dates to 1847. The Watch is engraved with not only Maybricks name, but the cryptic line ''I Am Jack''. To add even more ''fire'' to the story, the so-called initials of all Canonical Ripper Victims ''appear'' as well. The Watch has it's share of believers and detractors as well.
