The 15th Century Germany, ''The Instep Borer'' was a Torture device made to resemble a Boot. Constructed of iron, it was hinged to allow placement of the Victim's foot. Over the Boots instep was a hand crank that, when turned - would slowly send a steel shank into the Victims foot. The more turned, the deeper The Borer went. Although a torture device used for confession, often death would result from blood loss or infection. Due to no surviving examples, many Historians feel that this device was a "fantasy piece" (similar to The Iron Maiden).
