A Fetish Doll seen in Ancient Japan, The Hoko Doll (or Crawling Child ) was a small silk doll figure with Human Hair which was given to Japanese Boys and Girls. The Hoko was used to absorb any Sins that a Child may acquire. At 15 years of age, a Child was expected to present The Hoko at a Shinto Shrine, where it was burned in a sacred fire. In this, any transgressions were likewise destroyed. In another variation of The Hoko Mythos The Doll could be given to a Woman in Labor. The Doll was seen to absorb any pain the Woman experienced in Childbirth,. Likewise, it was burned after use to make sure no pain came with recovery. Hoko Dolls can be traced as far back at the 3rd Century BC I n Japan and are still used by some.
