A popular story from Rhinelander, Wisconsin (US) around 1903, The Hodag was said to be a bad tempered lizard-like creature that featured multiple horns on it's head and face. They walked around on all fours and were a dark green. They sported 2 long fangs as well. They were a constant problem to Loggers. A large (and well reported) Hunt was scheduled in 1905. People came from all over the Country to participate in Hodag Hunting. A photo reputed to show a group of Hunters with a Hodag is well known. Unfortunately the carcass is so badly burned, that one cannot make out just what the Hunters killed!. The Hoday is still the official Mascot of Northern Wisconsin.
