Associated with damnation and The Underworld, Hellhounds are actually Indicative of many World Cultures and traditions regarding death. In their original form (from before The Christian Era), they were off-shoots of the Greek God Hades "guard" - Cerebus. Later, they were seen as harbingers of doom and pending death. Still later ( in popular literature), Hellhounds occupied "The Lower Regions" as tormentors of the Damned. Seen as abnormally large wolf-like Canines, they are often described as having burning red eyes and razor sharp fangs (or teeth). Given almost "human" reasoning, The Hellhounds were relentless in acquiring their prey. Unable to enter "holy ground" or anything so consecrated - only daylight was known to hold them at bay.
