From Ancient Greece (and later Rome), comes The Harpies. These mythical creatures are always in the humanoid form of a female. The are part-bird (usually a Raptor species). They are the offspring of the Gods Thaumas and Electra. They are known to steal the food of their victims (while they are eating). They also have the task of taking wrongdoers to their Cousins - The Furies (for judgment and disposition). They are known to be harassers of Oath breakers, but unlike their Fury relations, they take no direct actions (other than taking truly evil violators to The Furies). The Harpies featured prominently in Medieval literature primarily in Dante's Inferno. The Harpies occupy The Seventh Ring (Circle) of Hell. They are in charge of persons who committed suicide.
