The Eagle Bone Whistle, was a Native American Spiritual device (musical instrument), which was fashioned from a bone from The American Bald Eagle. Many Southwest and Northern Plains Tribes deeply revered The Eagle as both ''Guide'' and ''God''. The creation of small whistles, which were carried around the neck, were used for summoning ''great courage'' as well as ''awakening One's Ancestors'' for their help. The previously discussed ''Sun Dance'' of The Lakota (Sioux), was a ritual which involved the constant blowing of The Eagle Bone Whistle, as a means to ignore the pain of the ritual a young Warrior underwent. Today, it is a violation of US Federal Law for anyone other than a Native American to possess such Whistles (as they are seen as Sacred Religious devices.
