Duppy

A creature from The Caribbean West Indies, The Duppy was a "Guardian" Spirit, that was summoned by a Village Shamans (Spiritual Leader and Healer). Duppy were by nature, evil. They were invoked to protect a Village from other Duppy, likewise summoned to harm them! They stand "guard" at the entrance to Villages. It was said The Duppy's breath was so foul, it was used as a weapon. One whiff, and the victim would become violently ill. Likewise it's touch, would cause spasms as well. The Duppy can only be held off by tobacco. Worn about the neck in cloth or leather pouches, the smell of the unsmoked plant is repugnant to The Duppy.
