Vincent Price indeed did in American International Pictures 1972 direct sequel to "The Abominable Dr. Phibes". This time around, Phibes revives to transport His dead Wife to Egypt in search of the mythical River of Life (used by The Pharoahs to achieve immortality). The River is only accessed every 1,000 years. Setting out on His mission, Phibes encounters a rival. Another wealthy aristocrat seeks The River. It turns out, He is actually a centuries old Alchemist who discovered an Elixir of Life , with temporary results. As He leads an expedition to thwart Phibes, Phibes resorts to His many means at exotic tortures and deaths. In the end, Phibes beats Him to access of The River. With the mystic gate sealed, and out of Elixir, Phibes rival quickly ages and dies. Phibes and His dead Wife are last seen on The River, beginning their Eternal journey. While several more films were planned, Price rejected the scripts as being unworthy of His character. None were ever produced, leaving Dr. Phibes ultimate fate unknown.
