C.H.U.D. Stands for Cannibalistic Humanoid Underground Dwellers and were the source for a 1984 Horror/Sci-Fi film (with several sequels). Based on an Urban Legend from the 1970s regarding pet store brought baby alligators flushed down the toilet (and the pets making their way to the sewers where they grew to amazing sizes), the theory with CHUD is that the many unknown homeless of New York reside in the deep subway tunnels. Many of these tunnels were built in the 19th Century. Whole communities of people could live there and never see the light of day. Centuries of pollution (some radioactive), have caused these denizens to evolve into an entirely different humanoid life form. When their food supply runs out, CHUDS begin to hunt above ground humans. C.H.U.D.s are around 6 feet tall with ecoplasmic skin. They feature long arms with talon-like claws. Their eyes are much larger and better suited for seeing in the dark (than light), and emit a yellow glow. The term CHUD was worked it's way into modern language usage as a slow witted or mentally under developed person. The movie was so popular, that many people thought it was based on a true story!.
