The Narragansett Native American Tribe of Rhode Island, Massachusetts and Connecticut (US), identify ‘’Chepi’’ as a Class of Spirit (Ghost) – who is responsible for ‘’instructing’’ Shaman and Medicine Men in the ‘’ways’’ of conjuring, healing etc. As Spirits, Chepi ‘’appeared’’ to Medicine Men in  dreams or visions (induced by various herbal mixtures or hallucinogens). The Chepi could be ‘’animal’’ or ‘’human’’ in appearance. They ‘’tested’’ a Healer. If They felt Him worthy – The Chepi would bestow ‘’knowledge’’.
