In The American South, a ''Bottle Tree'' has several meanings among those who have a tacit belief in Folk Magic (Voodoo, Hoodoo etc.) Brightly colored glass bottles are often placed on small natural tress and stout bushes (denuded of foliage). The bottles are placed via their openings on the branch tips and pushed downward, so they ''hang''. Blue, Green, Red and Yellow are all popular colors. Clear is often not used (as this is actually an attractant for a wayward Spirit). The Bottle Tree is said to ''ward off'' Evil or Harmful Spirits that might try to enter a property and Home. The origins of The Bottle Tree may be from Africa and the practice of placing Amulets and Trinkets in a similar way on trees with similar results. Bottle Trees are more common in Louisiana and Mississippi.
