''Bed Burials'' were first used by the Ancient Greeks. In this case, these were bronze and later wooden. They would become the traditional manner of internment for e 7th Century AD Anglo-Saxon Royalty and Nobility (in a fashion). As the name states, a wooden bed was constructed for the deceased. After a suitable grave was dug to accommodate the remains (which were ritualistically prepared and dress in great finery), Mourners would come by (gazing down). Grave Goods and mementos were added. After the Ritual, the grave was simply filled in, with burial mound raised. The theory of The Bed Burial was that a Person was seen only as asleep. As such beds being used by the living in the same manner, it made the acceptance of death easier. Many examples in various states of condition have survived today.
